The meaning and owner of the shield, see below.

The meaning of the shield:
Kiowa Shield of Akopti depicting the Taime ( the Taime was a sacred image of a human figure, the central figure in the Sun Dance ) used in the Sacred Sun Dance ceremony. The figure of the upside-down anthropomorph ( Attribution of human characteristics to animals )is sometimes depicted in Plains Indian rock art.
On the left side of the shield a very faint circle can be seen at the bottom of the shield. Faint vertical lines connected to, and above the circle would indicate the body and head of an upside-down anthropomorph. A similar depiction in shield imagery has been recorded in the Kiowa shield that belonged to Akopti, as depicted by the Kiowa artist Silverhorn. On that shield, two upside-down figures are depicted.
