The owner of the shield:
Fool Bull, medicineman and warrior, holds his painted warshield, which he carried in the Battle of Little Bighorn.

This shield has survived the years, and is now in the Lakota Museum in Rapid City, South Dakota.
The painted shield ( replica made by John Groeneveld ), decorated with trade cloth, owl feathers, duckfeathers and imitation eagle feathers, is based on the John Alvin Anderson photograph.
