The meaning and owner of the

The meaning of the shield:
The original shield was given to
Bull Lodge by Thunder Beings from the Sky World
during the first of his seven visions. An image
of the Thunderbird was painted on the deerskin
cover of the shield. The cover was lost long ago.
The buffalo rawhide material of the shield
itself, was painted with a central circle
surrounded by three rings, a reference to the
sacred number four and perhaps the three
ascending levels of the sky. In the outer circle
of the shield, Bull Lodge placed his personal
medicine bundles.
|
The owner of the shield:
The original shield belonged to the famous holy
man and warrior Bull Lodge. He was well known for
his gifts.
