The meaning of the shield:
The shield is decorated with
painted green stripes on one half and bear tracks
on the other which signify heroic deeds in
warfare.
The form of a bear paw, was a popular image on
shields.
The footprints of the bear represent the
warrior's totem.
To some tribes, the bear was known to ' hear all
'. Bears were the ' ears of the forest '.
