Made and painted by John Groeneveld ( Non-Native
American ).
The meaning and owner of the
shield, see below.
|
 |
The meaning of the shield:
The darkness of night is
represented by a claw-like figure above the red
line, while dawn is represented by the lower red
area.
Two Leggings believed the two feathers would make
him swift.
|
The owner of the shield:
The original shield belonged to the famous Crow
warrior Two Leggings. Born
along the Bighorn River in Montana, Two Leggings
was a member of the Crows' Uxarache clan.
For many Crow warriors during the Plains wars, it
was a small jump from stealing Sioux horses to
scouting for the U.S. Army against the Sioux. Two
Leggings, like Curly and White-Man-Runs-Him,
became a well-known scout for General George
Armstrong Custer.
