The meaning of the shield:
The buffalo
symbol on the Pawnee shield means to bring a
special honor, reverence or appreciation for all
of the things that the Earth provides for her
children.
Much of the Pawnee life centered around the
buffalo herd.
The buffalo
is considered by the Pawnee to be a symbol of
abundance. The
buffalo provided food, clothing, utensils, and
tools necessary in daily life.
